Merchant quality bars are suited for use in non-critical parts of bridges, buildings, general machinery, railways, ships, and other applications which involve mild cold-bending, hot forming, punching and welding. They are not suitable for uses which involve forging, heat treating, cold drawing or complex machining. Bars may have surface irregularities and a certain degree of internal porosity.
